Used to work 70 hour weeks, now I actually see my family
Changed jobs about a year ago and took a pay cut to work local hours. My old company was demanding constant availability and I was always working. I'd come home, see my kids for like 30 minutes, then go to bed. My marriage was falling apart too because my wife basically raised the kids alone. Now I get home at 5:30 most days, we eat dinner together, I help with homework, weekends are actually free. The reduced paycheck hurt at first but we adjusted. What I gained is way more valuable. My youngest actually knows who I am now. We joke that he didn't even recognize me when I made the switch. Don't get me wrong, I miss some of the old salary but this is better.
This is real talk right here. The pay cut for actual time with your family is worth it. I did something similar five years ago and never looked back. How has it affected you mentally?
