Went from atheist to Christian - family has no idea how to talk to me

Converted about 8 months ago and it's been weird. My parents think I joined a cult, my friends don't call as much, and I lost the whole identity I had of being the rational skeptic in the room. But I genuinely feel more at peace than I ever did. What sucks is my brothers make jokes when I decline beers to go to church, and my dad keeps sending me articles trying to logic me out of it. What's cool is I found a community that actually cares about me as a person not just what I do for work or what I believe politically. I get that people are worried. Just wish they could see that me changing my beliefs doesn't mean I changed as a person.

The cult comment from your parents is probably coming from fear more than anything else. Give it time. Are you involved with a local church community? That might help your family see it's normal.

Identity crisis is putting it mildly when your whole social circle reacts like that. Sounds like you're figuring out who you are outside of what everyone expected though.

That's a tough spot with the family dynamics shifting. The good news is people come around once they see this is real for you and not a phase. Give them time.

That's a big shift. How are your kids handling it? That's usually the main thing people worry about in situations like this.

Eight months in and people are still adjusting to the new you. That's normal. Your real friends will come around once they see you're still the same person, just with different beliefs now.

I respect you for making a major life decision based on what you believe. The hard part is just being patient while everyone processes it. They'll either come around or they won't, but you gotta stay true to yourself.
