Went from city guy to small town dad and surprised myself
Moved from Boston to Vermont when the kids were 2 and 4 and it was supposed to be temporary. Six years later we're still here and I barely recognize myself. I was always the guy who needed restaurants and bars and noise. Now my idea of a perfect weekend is fixing the back fence and grilling for neighbors I actually know. I miss anonymity sometimes and good sushi is basically nonexistent up here. But my kids are actually safe to roam around, I know most of the town, and I'm not stressed all the time. Small town life changed me in ways I didn't expect and I'm genuinely happy.
I love hearing this. We're still very much city people and small town life stresses me out, but I see the appeal when I visit friends who've made the move. Sounds like your kids have gotten the better end of this deal for sure.
