Spent 15 years climbing the ladder at a big firm. VP title, six figures, completely miserable. Then my son got sick for a bit and I realized I'd missed like everything. Changed jobs and went freelance two years ago. Yeah I make about 40% less money but I'm home by 3pm most days. I coach my kids' baseball team, I'm actually present at dinner. The stress is different now - money stress instead of people stress - but I can actually breathe. Don't get me wrong, some days I wonder if I made a mistake financially. But seeing my kids' faces light up when I pick them up from school? That's the real currency.
