Went from corporate rat race to single income small town life
Left my six figure job last year to move my family to a smaller town and work part time as a consultant. On paper it sounds like I downgraded but I'm actually up on everything that matters. See my kids before they go to bed. Know the guys at my coffee shop by name. Know my neighbors. Miss the money sometimes when unexpected bills hit but I don't miss the stress or the traffic or the 12 hour days. Miss some of the intellectual challenge but honestly being present for life beats winning another promotion. Wife says I'm a different person and a better husband. That's worth more than any title.
That's a huge move. How's the financial side working out? I'm still in the corporate grind but sometimes I wonder if the extra zeros are worth missing my kids' childhoods.
