Went from stuck in a dead end job to starting my own business
Spent 12 years at a company that didn't appreciate me, made the same salary, watched younger guys get promoted over me. My wife finally said either you try something new or you're going to be miserable forever. So at 42 I said screw it and started my own contracting business. First year was terrifying, honestly. Second year we broke even. Third year we're actually making decent money. I work more hours than I ever did at the job but it's different when it's yours. I miss the stability and the benefits but I don't miss the soul crushing feeling of going somewhere every day that didn't matter. Now I'm building something. My kids see their dad running his own thing which is worth everything.
Congrats on getting out of that cycle. Watching younger guys move up while you stagnate would eat at me too. The scary part about owning your own thing is real but at least you control your own destiny now.
