Went from working 70 hour weeks to actually knowing my kids's names
This is going to sound dramatic but five years ago I was that guy living for promotions and paychecks. Barely saw my family. Got laid off during the recession and it forced me to be home more. Turns out my kids are actually cool people and my wife isn't just someone who handles stuff while I'm grinding. I miss the salary and the identity of being the big earner, but I don't miss the anxiety or the constant feeling that I'm missing everything. Now I work normal hours and coach my son's baseball team. Different person basically.
That's not dramatic at all man, that's real. Getting laid off was the wake-up call I didn't know I needed too. Now my daughter actually runs to the door when I get home instead of just looking up from her tablet.
