What I miss about being the single guy version of me

Married with two kids now and wouldn't change it but man do I miss some things. Random road trips with no planning. Going to bed at 3am and sleeping until 11. Spending money on dumb stuff just because. Having time to actually think. There's this specific loneliness sometimes where I miss that freedom and independence. I love my family but that old version of me feels like a whole different person now.

The random road trips thing is real. Being a dad is incredible but man, the spontaneity is gone. Though honestly now my road trips involve a diaper bag and three snack containers so it's not quite as free.

Here's the thing though - you can still do some of that stuff, just looks different now. Took my kids on a road trip last year and yeah it wasn't the same as pre-kids, but it was actually better in a way I didn't expect.

I get this completely. I miss sleeping past 6 AM and going to concerts on a whim. But when my kid wraps his arms around my neck I'm like okay yeah this trade off was worth it.

I think about the single guy me sometimes too. No judgment. You can miss those days and still absolutely love your life now. Both things are true.
