What I've given up vs what I've gained
My friends still rag on me for not coming to Vegas last year but I stayed home with the kids for their spring break. Before fatherhood I would've been first on that plane. Slept in till 7 am though which felt like a vacation lol. The real thing I miss is just... silence. And adult conversation. And sleeping past 5 am on weekends. But watching my son figure out how to ride a bike without training wheels for the first time, or my daughter run up to me at pickup yelling "Daddy!" like I'm some kind of hero... that hits different. Can't explain it to the guys at work. They just think I'm boring now but I think I'm actually more interesting. Different anyway.
The before and after is real though. Yeah you miss some stuff but what you gain is honestly incomparable. Tell your friends to call you when they have kids and see how fast their priorities shift.
