Why does becoming a dad feel like joining a cult sometimes

Ok not actually a cult but like, you can't relate to your friends without kids anymore. They're talking about their weekend hiking trips and brunches and I'm over here getting emotional about my son saying "I love you dad" for the first time. The conversations are so different now. They ask how I'm doing and I start talking about sleep schedules and teething and I can see their eyes glaze over. Then I hangout with dad friends and we all just complain about the same stuff. It's its own whole world

Made some of my best friends through dad stuff actually. Found other dads going through the same thing and it's way easier to relate to them than my old squad. You'll find your people.

The hiking trips and brunches thing is so real. But honestly the emotional milestones with my kids hit different than any weekend adventure ever did. Getting emotional about first words and stuff isn't cult behavior, it's just what actually matters once you have kids.

Getting emotional about your son's milestone is literally the opposite of a cult, it's you being a present and engaged father. That's beautiful man. Don't let anyone make you feel weird about it.

I've totally lost friendships because of this. Like I want to hang out but I can't just disappear for the weekend anymore and that doesn't compute for some people. It's actually wild how fast you grow apart from people without kids.

This hit different. I literally can't talk to my old crew anymore without them making it weird that I have a kid. They're all still living like they're in college and I'm just trying to enjoy watching my daughter laugh at something stupid on TV.
