50/50 custody but still paying child support, doesn't feel right

We have 50/50 split down the middle, alternating weeks. Judge ordered me to pay 600 a month in child support because I make about 15k more per year than my ex. I get that child support is supposed to equalize things but this doesn't sit right with me. I'm already buying groceries and paying for activities on my weeks. The money I'm sending is basically going to her rent, not directly to the kids. My lawyer said appealing would cost more than what I'd save. Anyone else dealing with this? How did you accept it?

Yeah that's a tough spot. I'm in a similar boat with the income difference and it stings, but the judge usually factors that in for a reason. Doesn't make it feel fair though, I get it.

Even with 50/50 you're still supporting them financially which matters. That said, the courts look at income gap pretty hard. Talk to a lawyer if you think the math is really off.
