7 year old doesn't want to come to my house anymore

This is breaking my heart. She says it's because I don't have her stuff there and she misses her room at mom's place. I bought her new furniture, set up her room exactly how she wanted it but she still complains. Ex says I'm being too hard on her and that she needs time to adjust. Am I supposed to just accept this or should I talk to her about it? We have her every other weekend and I feel like I'm losing her.

Man, that's tough. Have you thought about getting her some of her stuff set up at your place? Even just her favorite toys, books, or clothes might help her feel more at home. Kids sometimes just need to feel like they have their own space there.

I went through something similar and what helped was letting my daughter pick out some decorations and stuff for her room at my house. Made it feel like HER space instead of just a guest room. Takes some of the work but it made a real difference.

This is hard to hear but it sounds like she's trying to tell you something pretty clearly. Maybe talk to her mom about what specific stuff she misses most and try to recreate that at your place. Even small things like her favorite snacks or a decorated room can make a difference.

That's heartbreaking, I'm sorry. The good news is she's old enough that you can actually fix this. Let her help you set up her room, get her input on what she needs there. Kids want to feel like they belong, not just dropped off.

I get it - that rejection stings. But the fact that you're thinking about what SHE needs instead of just your feelings tells me you're gonna figure this out. Keep being that dad who shows up for her.
