Can't afford lawyer for custody modification

Long story short, my job situation changed and I can't stick to my current 40/60 split anymore because of my new schedule. I know I need to go back to court to modify the arrangement but I'm already paying child support and a lawyer would just drain me right now. Has anyone dealt with legal aid or done any modifications on their own? I'm in Michigan if that matters. I want to do this the right way, not just blow off the current agreement.
