Can't afford the child support hike

Lost my job 3 months ago and just got a new one making 15k less per year. Asked my ex if we could revisit the child support amount while I get back on my feet and she straight up said no. She's making 90k and I'm struggling to cover rent and the support payment. Haven't gone to court yet because legal fees are insane. Anyone been through a modification? What do I need to know?

I'm sorry man, that's rough. Losing your job then taking a pay cut on top of it? That's a lot. Have you documented the job loss and new salary with your ex? Most courts will adjust based on income changes like that. Might be worth talking to someone about modifying the agreement.

This is exactly why I hate these situations. You got a new job which is great, but taking a hit financially AND having to pay more? That's backwards. Get legal help to adjust this based on your actual income now.

That's a tough spot. You need to file for a modification based on the material change in income. Don't just ignore the hike and hope it goes away. Get it in writing with the courts so you have protection and she can't keep demanding more.
