Child support modification - got laid off

Lost my job last month and my child support is killing me right now. I've got severance for maybe 2 more months then I'm scrambling. Do I need to file for modification right away or should I wait until I'm actually unemployed? Don't want to look like I'm trying to dodge my responsibility here but I also can't afford my apartment and make these payments at the same time.

Man that's rough, I'm sorry. Have you talked to a family law attorney about modifying the order? Most of them offer free consultations and honestly with a job loss that's pretty clear grounds for modification. Don't just let it sit.

This happened to my buddy last year. Get documentation of the job loss and file for modification ASAP. The court gets it, they're usually pretty reasonable about this stuff. But you gotta be proactive about it.
