Child support modification question

Got laid off a couple months ago, finally found a new job but it's about 30k less per year. Do I need to formally modify my child support or can I just talk to my ex about it? We've had a pretty cooperative situation but I also don't want to get behind on payments. Haven't said anything yet. Should I contact my lawyer or try to handle it directly with her first?

Congrats on landing the new job even with the pay cut. You'll want to file for modification right away so you've got legal protection, especially since you can show the job change was involuntary.

You definitely need to do it formally, man. Don't try to just adjust things informally - courts need paperwork to make changes official. I'd talk to a family law attorney ASAP since the income change is significant and documented.
