Child support payment changes - how do I request modification?

Lost some hours at work and my child support payments are honestly killing me right now. Still seeing my kids plenty and want to keep it that way, but I'm struggling. Do I need to go back to court to get the amount adjusted or is there a simpler process? Don't want my ex to think I'm trying to bail on supporting my kids - that's not it at all.
