My ex keeps using our 6 year old to relay messages to me like pick up at 5 instead of 5:30 or remember his soccer gear. The kid gets confused and anxious. I've asked her to text me multiple times. She says she forgets or that it's not a big deal but it IS a big deal. Where's the line between sharing custody info and using your child as a messenger? This is driving me nuts.
That's a tough position for the kid to be in. I've learned through co-parenting that direct communication between parents matters way more than putting a 6 year old in the middle. Have you been able to set up a text or email system with the ex?
Document these interactions if you can. Shows a pattern if you ever need it down the road. Not saying it'll come to that but co-parenting goes smoother when communication is direct between the adults.
This drove me up the wall with my ex. We finally had to have a blunt conversation about using the kids as messengers. It's not fair to them and it messes with communication between adults. Good call addressing it.
Yeah my ex does this sometimes and I hate it. The 6 year old gets confused about whether mom wants him to tell me something or if it's his own message. Have you tried just telling your kid to have mom text you directly?

You're right to stop that now. Using the kid as a messenger is unfair to him and usually just creates confusion about pickup times and gear anyway.
