Communication with ex is impossible

Every text turns into an argument. I'll ask about something simple like what time to pick up our son and somehow we end up rehashing why the marriage fell apart. We both have lawyers but even they're frustrated with how much back and forth there is. Has anyone successfully moved to using one of those co-parenting apps? Is it actually less toxic or does it just move the conflict somewhere else?
