Communication with Ex is Impossible

Every single text turns into a fight. I'll ask about my daughter's soccer schedule and somehow it becomes about something I did wrong three years ago. I've tried being cordial, I've tried being neutral, I've tried keeping it short. Nothing works. She takes everything I say the wrong way or twists it into something personal. We've got 11 more years of custody stuff ahead of us. Do I need to go through a mediator for every little thing? What's worked for you guys?

The past stuff coming up every time is exhausting. Try keeping texts super short and factual. Soccer schedule question gets one sentence, nothing more. Don't engage the bait about old stuff. It takes practice but it works.

That's the worst part of co-parenting. She's probably still hurt and taking it out on logistics. Stick to business when you text and save the real conversations for parenting apps if you can. Keeps emotions out of it.

This is tough to navigate. Maybe suggest using a co-parenting app instead of texts so there's a clear record and it stays professional? Takes away some of the personal friction when it's all about the schedule.
