Communication with ex is toxic

She uses the kids as leverage constantly. Texts me angry about child support, cancels my time last minute, makes snide comments about my parenting in front of the kids. Got a lawyer involved but it's dragging on and costing me thousands. Trying to keep it together for my kids but some days I'm furious. Wondering if I should try to get full custody but don't want to traumatize them more. This is harder than I thought.

The leverage thing is the worst because the kids pick up on it. Have you tried communicating through a third party or a co-parenting app? Sometimes taking the direct texting out of it helps de-escalate the anger.

That's rough and honestly it's not sustainable. Using kids as leverage is a line that shouldn't get crossed. You might need to document some of this stuff and consider getting a lawyer involved if she's canceling your time regularly. This is about protecting your relationship with your kids.

That's exhausting, man. I've been there with the angry texts and it just spirals. At some point you gotta set boundaries about what you will and won't engage with. Document everything though just in case.
