Communication with toxic ex during pickups/dropoffs

Things got pretty heated with my ex's new boyfriend at pickup yesterday in front of the kids. He made a comment about my parenting and I just lost it. My 8 year old saw the whole thing and asked if mom and dad were going to fight. I felt terrible. I know I need to keep it civil for the kids but every time I see her it's like nothing has changed and we just start arguing. Any apps or methods that work for keeping communication strictly business?

Man, I feel you. Those moments in front of the kids are the worst because you're trying to stay calm but also defend yourself. I've been there with my co-parenting situation and learned the hard way that disengaging from the boyfriend's comments is usually the move, even though it's incredibly frustrating.
