Custody agreement doesn't cover summer

Our original agreement was pretty basic and now summer is coming up. She wants the kids for 6 weeks but that conflicts with my vacation time and my new job. We haven't gone to court yet and honestly can't afford it right now. Anyone dealt with modifying custody without lawyers? Should I just agree to keep the peace?
