Custody schedule question - switching weeks mid-summer

Ex wants to swap our kids schedule around the last week of July because her family is having a reunion. We agreed to keep consistent weeks when we went through mediation. I'm not against being flexible but I feel like she uses these requests to test boundaries. My new girlfriend had planned a trip with me and the kids that week. Should I push back or just go with it to keep the peace?

Depends on your custody agreement but usually you need to follow what's written. If she wants to swap she should ask the court or at least put it in writing so there's no confusion later. Don't just agree verbally.

I'd be careful about setting a precedent of swapping whenever someone asks. One swap becomes two becomes 'well you did it last time.' Check what your paperwork says first.

Family reunions are nice but they're not an emergency. If your schedule works for you and the kids are good with it, reasonable flexibility is fine. But make sure she understands it's a one-time thing unless there's a real reason.
