I shuttle my three kids between houses and honestly we just do it at home. She drops them at the front door, I meet her there, no awkward conversations. Takes two minutes. If there's tension though, neutral ground is definitely the move.
We do a neutral location swap - there's a Starbucks parking lot roughly between our places and we meet there every other Sunday. Keeps things civil and neither of us has to go to the other's house. Works way better than it sounds.

This was one of the hardest parts for us to figure out. We tried her place first, then my place, then settled on a park midway. The key is keeping it predictable so the kids know what to expect. Same time, same place every swap. Reduces anxiety for everyone.
Doesn't sound glamorous but some people use a coparenting app to coordinate the details first so the handoff itself is just logistics. No talking necessary, everything's already planned. Less conflict that way.
