Dealing with parental alienation

My 12 year old came back from his mom's house saying he doesn't want to come to my place anymore. She's been telling him stuff like I don't care about his sports or that I'm only around on weekends so I don't matter. I don't want to bad mouth her to him but this is breaking me. Has anyone dealt with this? I'm considering talking to a family lawyer about it but don't want to make things worse. Not sure what the right move is here.

This is really tough, man. I'd try to have a calm conversation with your 12-year-old without badmouthing his mom, just listen and let him know you care. Alienation is serious and might be worth talking to a family counselor about.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. Stay consistent, show up for him, and document everything. The courts take alienation seriously if it comes to that, but the main thing is proving through your actions that you do care.
