Does anyone else's kid have anxiety on swap days?

My son is 8 and has always been sensitive to transitions but lately it's ramped up. He gets quiet and clingy the day before he comes to me, won't engage with his mom, and then on pickup day he's emotional. Therapist says some anxiety around transitions is normal but this feels like it's getting in the way of him enjoying time with me. We're thinking about talking to his school counselor about it too. Just wondering if this is super common or if we should be more concerned?
