Week on week off is actually pretty clean if you're both staying reasonable. That said the tax implications and stuff get messy. You might want to at least consult with a family lawyer about what happens if either of you remarry or have new kids.
Honestly depends on your situation. If you're both on good terms and making similar income it can work. But the moment one person gets a new partner or wants to change things it gets complicated fast.

This could bite you later honestly. I know everything feels fine now but if anything changes - job loss, moving, new partner - suddenly you have no legal ground to stand on. Even just getting something basic in writing would protect you both.
