Ex is being difficult about adjusting custody schedule for summer camp

My son got accepted to a week long soccer camp in July that costs way too much but means everything to him. It falls during her week. I asked if we could swap a week later in the summer and she's refusing because she has plans. Her plans are not even confirmed yet. Our custody agreement doesn't really have language for this kind of thing. Do I need to lawyer up or is this something most people work out? Im not trying to be that guy but this is his childhood man.

I deal with this stuff constantly during school year scheduling. Try putting together a written proposal showing exactly how you'd make up the time, with specific dates. Makes it harder to say no when you've got a solid plan on paper.

Man, that's tough. Have you tried framing it as something that benefits him long-term rather than just a schedule swap? Sometimes exes respond better when they see it's about his growth and passion for the sport.

Soccer camp sounds awesome for him. Might be worth offering something she wants in return, like giving her an extra weekend later in the summer. Makes it feel like a real trade instead of just asking for a favor.
