Ex is being difficult about custody swap schedule

We've had the same Thursday evening and alternating weekends schedule for 2 years now. She just texted out of the blue saying she wants to switch it because her new job has different hours. I get it but she didn't even ask first, just told me how it's going to be. I don't want to be the difficult one but this feels disrespectful. Do I push back or just try to make it work?

Keep that schedule sticky if it's working. Any change affects your life and the kids' routine. Propose a time to actually talk about it instead of handling it over text. That usually goes better.

Don't let her rock the boat just for the sake of it. Kids need consistency and you've already established a rhythm. If she wants something different she needs a real reason, not just a text.

Two years of the same schedule means the kids are used to it. What's her reason for wanting to change it? Sometimes if you understand the 'why' you can find a compromise that works better for everyone.
