Ex keeps flaking on scheduled days and it's killing me

I have the kids Monday through Thursday every week. She gets them Friday through Sunday. The problem is she cancels maybe 30% of her time. Kids will be excited all week and then Friday comes and she's "busy" or "not feeling well". I don't know what to do. I can't force her to take them and I hate telling my kids their mom isn't coming to get them. Anyone else dealing with something similar? Should I be documenting this for court or will that look petty?

That's rough. Has the issue gotten worse over time or has she always been flaky? Either way you might need to get this in writing with a custody agreement if you don't have one already. Courts take consistency seriously and documentation helps.

How are the kids handling it? That's what I'd focus on first - the impact on them. Once you document a pattern of missed weekends, that actually strengthens your position if you ever need to go back to court. But do it for the kids' stability, not just to be right.

This kills me to hear. Monday-Thursday is a lot of responsibility on you and the last thing you need is her bail out plans messing up their schedule. Have you talked to her about what's going on? Sometimes there's stuff behind the flaking.
