Ex won't communicate except through texts about important stuff

My ex and I separated about 8 months ago. I've been trying to talk to her about school decisions, doctor appointments, that kind of thing, but she refuses to have any real conversations. Everything has to be texted and she takes forever to respond. Then when I try to call about something urgent regarding our daughter, she ignores it. Our custody agreement doesn't specify communication methods. Should I be documenting all these text conversations? Is this something a lawyer needs to handle or am I overthinking it?
