Ex won't stick to custody schedule

She's constantly texting to swap weeks or extend her time. Don't get me wrong, I want the kids to see her, but when I ask to move things around she acts like I'm being unreasonable. I'm getting frustrated trying to plan my life when nothing's solid. Do I need to get a lawyer involved or am I overreacting? We don't have a formal agreement yet which I think is the problem.

Yeah this is rough. My ex does the same thing and honestly it messes with my ability to plan anything. Have you tried setting a firm boundary that swaps need to be requested at least a week in advance? Took me a while to implement but it helped.

This is tough because you want to be the cool dad who's flexible but then she takes advantage and suddenly you're scrambling every other week. Might be worth documenting these requests so you have a record if this escalates.

I get wanting the kids to see mom as much as possible, but you've also got to protect your own time with them. The custody agreement exists for a reason. Maybe time to involve a mediator if it keeps happening?
