Found out my 8yo told mom he's 'scared' of my new girlfriend

Got a message from my ex saying our son told her he's scared of my girlfriend Sarah. I was blindsided by this. Sarah has been around maybe 6 times over the last two months, nothing crazy, she brings the kids snacks and they seemed fine with her. I asked my son about it and he wouldn't really explain, just said she talks too loud. I don't want to keep my life on hold forever but I also don't want to hurt my kids. Is this normal kid stuff or should I pump the brakes? How do you guys handle introducing new people?

Before jumping to conclusions, I'd invite Sarah to do something low-pressure with him, like helping in the garage with a project. Sometimes kids just need to see the person in a different context where they feel more comfortable.

This happened with my oldest when I started dating again. Turned out he was worried I'd forget about him, not actually scared of my girlfriend. A good talk cleared it up fast. Definitely have that conversation with your son first.

That's tough to hear, but six times is still pretty new for an 8yo to process. I'd sit down with him one-on-one in a calm moment and ask what specifically scared him rather than assuming anything. Kids sometimes just need time to warm up.
