Got primary custody, mom barely shows up

Won primary custody almost a year ago and I'm not gonna lie, I'm thriving with my son. But his mom has visitation every other weekend and she's flaking constantly. She'll text Friday saying she can't take him, or pick him up 3 hours late. My son is starting to ask why mommy doesn't want to spend time with him and I'm breaking. How do I handle this without bad mouthing her?

Honestly the flaking is frustrating but your son's got one parent showing up consistently and that's what matters most. Keep doing what you're doing.

Man, that's tough but I hear you on the thriving part. With three kids split between two houses, I learned real quick that you can only control your side. Document those missed weekends though, just in case it ever matters legally.

At least he's got you locked in. Some kids don't even get that, so he's lucky even if mom's unreliable.
