How do you guys handle expenses for activities?

My 8 year old wants to do travel baseball this summer and it's going to be expensive - probably 2k between fees, equipment, and tournaments. We split custody 50/50 and I make slightly more than my ex. Should I be splitting this with her? Our custody agreement doesn't really spell out how to handle extracurriculars. I want to support what the kids want to do but I also don't want to be taken advantage of. What does everyone usually do?

Travel baseball is a commitment for sure. That 2k is just the start too - gas, hotels for tournaments, food on the road. Worth it if he's really into it though.

We split stuff like this 50/50 with my ex and it works out. Sit down and talk about whether it's worth the financial strain on both sides. Some programs offer scholarships too.

Check if there are local rec league options first that cost way less. My son loved baseball just as much in rec league as some of the other kids do in travel.

2k for the summer isn't crazy if the kid is passionate about it. The bigger question is are YOU ready for the time commitment? That's the real cost right there.
