How do you guys handle the holiday schedule nightmare

Separated last year and the divorce decree says I get Christmas Eve and she gets Christmas Day. Problem is my son wants to open gifts in the morning on Christmas. We're trying to be amicable for his sake but her new husband apparently has strong opinions about it. I don't want to fight with lawyers but I also don't want to miss opening presents with my boy. Any of you guys figured out a split that actually works?
