How do you guys handle the new girlfriend/boyfriend conversation

My ex is dating someone and now wants to introduce him to the kids. My son is 8 and my daughter is 5. I'm not thrilled but I know I don't get a say in what she does on her time. But I don't want some random guy around my kids and then he's gone in 3 months either. Is there an agreed upon amount of time you should wait before introducing kids to a new partner? This is making me more angry than I expected.

Make sure you and your ex are on the same page about how this goes down. Last thing you want is the kids getting confused about what's happening.

This is tough. I'd say at 8 your son can probably understand the situation better. Keep it simple and positive. The 5 year old might need more reassurance that she's not being replaced or something.

How long has your ex been dating this guy? That matters. If it's brand new I'd probably pump the brakes on introductions. But if they've been together a while it might be good for the kids to know he exists.

Just keep it low key. Maybe a casual outing where it's not like a big formal introduction. Kids pick up on awkwardness fast.
