How do you handle communication with ex during transitions?

We use a shared app but I'm wondering if anyone else just communicates in person at drop offs? Her new boyfriend picked up our son last week and things felt awkward. I want to keep things focused on the kids but don't know if meeting face to face is better or if that makes things weirder. What does everyone else do?

I stick with the app mostly because it keeps things documented, you know? But yeah, in-person at pickups works if you two can keep it civil. Just make sure there's clarity on who's handling transitions and when.

The app is solid for keeping records, but I've learned the hard way that text chains can get messy fast. In-person is better when emotions are high, but keep it brief and focused on the kiddo. That boyfriend situation needs a clear conversation with her though.
