How do you handle new partners in front of the kids?
I've been dating someone for about 6 months now and my daughter asked if she could meet her last weekend. My ex found out and got upset that I didn't clear it with her first. I don't think I need permission to have someone around on my parenting time. But also don't want to rock the boat too much since we're doing okay right now. How do other guys handle this? Is there an unwritten rule about how long you date someone before they meet the kids?
Six months is a good checkpoint before introducing them. My take is let her know beforehand so it's not a surprise, and keep the first meeting super casual. Maybe grab ice cream or do something low pressure. No need to make it a big family dinner moment yet.
This is the tricky part nobody really prepares you for. How did your ex wife react to the idea? That matters a lot for how your daughter processes it.
