How to handle new boyfriend situation

My 8 year old came back from her mom's place saying she met her new boyfriend. I get that she can date but I wasn't even told beforehand. Should I say something to her mom or just let it go? Trying not to make things worse but also want to be in the loop about who's around my kid.
