How to tell kids about the separation

Me and their mom are splitting up and we want to do this right. We're going to tell them together and keep it civil. Kids are 8 and 11. What do we actually SAY? How much do we explain? Do we tell them we're both still their dad and mom or is that obvious? First time doing this and I don't want to screw them up worse than the situation already is.
