I messed up. My girlfriend moved in with me after like 4 months of dating and now my kids are confused about boundaries and relationships. My 7yo keeps asking why she sleeps in my room and if they're going to get married. I didn't think this through and now my ex is using it as ammunition saying I'm not being a stable influence.

She's probably right. Girlfriend's moving out next month. Just wanted to put this out there so someone else doesn't make the same mistake.

I made a similar mistake and honestly my 7yo just needed reassurance that I still loved him the same way. Kids adapt faster than we think but they need to feel secure.

Four months is pretty fast to move someone in especially with kids in the picture. Kids need stability and that's a lot of change all at once.

Your kids need to know that you're still their main person and that a girlfriend doesn't change that bond. It might take some time to rebuild but it's fixable.

Have you talked to a family counselor about this? They might have good strategies for reintroducing her in a healthier way.
