Daughter needs braces and there's some disagreement on the timing and cost. We're 50/50 custody but my ex has full insurance through her job. The orthodontist says sooner is better for alignment. She wants to wait another year because of finances even though her plan covers most of it. I'm willing to pay for half but she's not responding well. Do I need a lawyer for this or can we figure it out? This is the kind of stuff that makes me miss being married lol.

The cost split is the tricky part with 50/50. We ended up going half and half but only after we both agreed on the provider. Maybe start there - find an ortho you both trust and then figure out the financial piece.

Medical stuff always creates friction when custody is split. Document everything and keep the other parent in the loop from day one. Shows good faith and helps if this ever becomes a bigger issue.

Braces at that age can be tough cost wise. We went through this last year. Try to get multiple orthodontist quotes because the prices vary wildly. And definitely have that conversation in writing through the app if you're already using one.
