Hit me right in the gut. I didn't know what to say so I just held him and told him that sometimes grown ups love each other but can't be together, and that both his mom and I love him very much. My ex and I get along okay now but not that okay. How do you guys handle these conversations without making it worse for them?

One of the hardest parts of co-parenting honestly. Just keep showing up and being consistent and he'll know he's loved. That hug meant more than you probably realize.
