Asking because that's her main push-back even though she admits I'm a good dad and the kids want more time with me. We're in Texas if that matters. Real talk: if she's using child support as a negotiating tactic and admits you're a good dad AND the kids want more time with you... that's something a judge will notice. Document everything, including the kids saying they want more time. That matters.
You might be able to get a legal clinic visit or consultation for cheap before committing to a full lawyer. Texas has some resources for this. Even an hour with someone would clarify whether the CS adjustment argument is even legitimate.
Don't try to DIY this even if it seems simple. Family court in Texas has specific filing requirements and if you mess up the paperwork it costs way more to fix. Get at least a consultation.

The fact that she's admitting you're a good dad and the kids want more time but STILL pushing back on custody because of money is... pretty telling. That's not putting the kids first, that's putting herself first financially.
