Rant: Why does coordinating Christmas take this long?

It's SEPTEMBER and my ex is already asking about Christmas plans. We've done the split for 3 years but apparently last year when I had the kids Christmas eve and she had Christmas day isn't good anymore. She wants me to take them Christmas eve to Christmas morning, then give them up for two weeks. Nope. Not happening. I have every other Christmas per the custody agreement and this year is MY year. Why does she always try to negotiate in September when we literally have a signed court order??

September is actually not that early if you have to coordinate flights or whatever. But I get the frustration about starting the conversation so early. Can you suggest a specific date in October to finalize plans and stick to it?

Three years in and this is still annoying? I feel like after the first year it should be easier to plan this stuff. My ex and I just set like a standing agreement now so there's no back and forth every single year.

Could be worse, could be one of those situations where your ex waits until November and then panics. At least she's planning ahead.

The worst part is when they want to change plans after you've already committed to something. I had to tell my ex that September planning deadline works both ways - once October 15 hits, that's it.

Make a shared calendar. Sounds simple but honestly it's been a game changer for us. Takes the back and forth out of it and everything's just there in writing.
