She's Badmouthing Me to the Kids and I'm Losing It

My ex has been telling the kids that I left them, that I chose work over family, all this stuff that's not the full story. I mean yeah, we had problems and the marriage didn't work out, but I've been incredibly involved with the kids. I see them four days a week. I'm at every soccer game. But now my 11 year old is cold to me and I know it's because of what her mom's been saying. My family law guy says I need to document everything and not retaliate by saying bad things about their mom to them, which I get, but how do I combat this poison without making it worse? This is killing me.

When the kids bring this stuff up, how are you responding? I'm trying to figure out the right way to defend myself without badmouthing their mom back.

This makes me so angry for you. The fact that you're losing it but still asking how to handle it right shows where your head is. Don't let her poison your relationship with your kids.

This is the hardest part of being a single dad. You can't control what she says but you can control how you show up for your kids. Keep being the parent that contradicts her narrative.

That's parental alienation and it's real. Document every time she does this and talk to your lawyer. Your kids deserve to know the truth about their dad.
