Struggled explaining divorce to my 8yo

He asked me yesterday why mommy and daddy don't live together anymore and I totally choked. Kept it simple, said we both love him and this isn't his fault. But man that was hard. Did I handle that right? He seemed okay but I'm second guessing myself now.

That's exactly how I handled it with mine too. Kids are resilient and they just need to know both parents still love them. Sounds like you nailed it honestly.

You did the right thing keeping it simple, man. My garage is where my kid and I talk about the real stuff sometimes, no pressure. The fact that you showed up and explained it honestly is what matters most.
