Trying to figure out holiday schedule with ex and it's a nightmare

We split last year and didn't have anything in writing. Now it's getting close to Christmas and we both want the kids. She's saying they spend Christmas Eve and Christmas morning with her. I want them overnight. We have no formal custody agreement yet and honestly I'm starting to think I need to just get a lawyer involved because this isn't working. Anyone deal with this? What ended up being fair for everyone?

I'd suggest going to a mediator instead of trying to hash this out between you two. Third party helps people stay rational when emotions are involved and Christmas brings out a lot of emotions.

This is exactly why people recommend getting stuff in writing from day one, even if you split amicably. The holidays make emotions run high and it's easy to slip into conflict. You need a clear plan both of you agreed to.

Get this sorted NOW with a lawyer or mediator before Christmas gets messy. Even a basic written agreement is way better than figuring it out on the fly. Courts love documentation and it protects your time with the kids too.
